April News
Grade 2
Dear Grade 2 Families,
The school year is moving by so quickly! Right now, we are wrapping up our unit on the neighborhood. The children have enjoyed learning about all of the people and places that make a neighborhood special. The children have been constructing homes and buildings to create classroom neighborhoods. They have also been working on neighborhood research and completing posters about neighborhood workers.
The “Neighborhood Worker” parade is on Tuesday, April 9th. Please have your child come to school dressed in his/her uniform or accessories. The children will arrive at school as usual by going to the gym to wait for the bell. Then, they will go up to their classrooms. Parents are asked to enter the building through the front door and sign in at the office. At 8:00, we will arrive into the gym where parents can watch the classes parade around the gym. Please stand against the walls of the gym as the children walk around for all parents to see. When the parade is done, you are welcome to take a picture with your child. At 8:15, the children will exit the gym to continue the parade around the school. We look forward to seeing the children dressed up in their outfits and uniforms. Thank you for your help with this special project!
April 9th is also Red Sox Day. Your child is welcome to wear a Red Sox shirt under their neighborhood worker uniform or bring a shirt to change into. If your child wants to change out of their neighborhood worker uniform, please send in a bag if the items will not fit in his/her backpack.
One special day this month is Earth Day. We will be discussing the importance of taking care of the earth and how we all can be “green” in our lives.
In Math, we are continuing to work on measurement. The children have practiced how to measure in inches, feet, and yards using a ruler, a yard stick, and a measuring tape. Measuring in centimeters and meters will also be practiced.
Sincerely,
Grade 2 Teachers
